As a child, I was a mini boss: a creative, assertive leader of the pack. I wasn’t always the most empathetic or heart-driven little leader, though. Girls my age learned early on that there was only room at the table for one female leader, and I was hungry enough to chew up and spit out any other girl who tried to steal my spot. It wasn’t that I wanted to hurt or belittle others; it was that we were taught such scarcity that I thought leadership was more about “survival of the fittest” than “all boats rise”.
