It was July 2016. I was at an afterparty for the opening of an Off-Broadway musical I wrote, co-directed, and co-starred in. It was a major milestone as a writer and performer, and as I sipped my martini with friends and family from all over the country who had flown in to celebrate with me, I was overwhelmed with joy and gratitude.
